Wow,
can't believe it's been almost a month since the last entry. Papa
is slacking! Shortly after the last entry, Grandma & Granpa arrived.
It's been a busy month helping them get settled in - not quite there
yet, but it's been great having them here and having some competent
caretakers for Emily:). Actually, they really spoil her, but that's
their job I suppose.

Emily has grown into a beautiful young woman (ok, not quite, but she's
grown). She smiles A LOT (takes after Mommy) and just yesterday, laughed
hysterically. It was the coolest sound I've ever heard. It happened
purely by chance too. She was on her changing table, and I was trying
to suck a booger out of her nose with the suction. Each time I'd stick
it in there, she would laugh her head off. I could listen to that
sound forever and not get tired of it, I think. Mommy missed it, so
she must have shoved that thing up her nose a couple of dozen times
before realizing that it was a one-time fluke.
One traumatic experience this month was Emily's first set of vaccine
shots. On her 2 month birthday of all days, we took her in for the
dirty deed. FOUR pricks right into her thighs and a blood draw (for
an optional all-extensive newborn screen - came back great, yay!).
She cried & cried, one of the first times actual tears came out
(which is when we realized that up to that point, she had been faking
it all along . . .). It was so heart breaking to watch, we must have
given her a thousand kisses afterwards (which pissed her off even
more). She must've thought we were such cruel traitors, but about
5 minutes later, she had forgotten. She made it through the next 48
hours with very little fussiness (in fact slept like a newborn again!)
and no fever! Here she is showing off 3 of her 5 battle wounds.

What else has happened? Emily took her first road trip - a quick trip
down to Santa Cruz on Grandma & Grandpa's 34th wedding anniversary.
The furthest she had been before that was her doctor's office in Palo
Alto. But when we got to SC, it was so cold, we turned right back
around after eating a quick hot dog on the boardwalk. We didn't uncover
the stroller the whole time, so there's actually no proof of Emily
having been to SC. Her next trip was just last weekend when we attended
Bella's 2nd birthday party in Dublin. She slept for most of the party
- she was quite the life. But when she did finally wake up, everyone
thought she was so adorable!
Brian Mac paid Emily a visit this month. He is the biggest person
she has ever seen, and their picture together is quite amusing.

"who let this really big white guy into my house . . ."
Other exciting things this month. Emily has turned into a couch potato.
Her favorite post-meal pasttime is to chill with Momma and watch TV.
We've been trying to get her to watch Baby Einstein (her first in-the-womb
gift from aunt Laura & uncle Eric!), but she much prefers Oprah,
Food Network and until recently, the US Open! |

We're
thrilled that she's picked up the game of tennis. If she is to play
on Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday, it's never too early to get started.
So, we've been taking her to the tennis court. Usually Grandma &
Grandpa watch over her like two bodyguards, but she has gone just
with Momma & Papa alone. In those cases, she mainly stays hidden
in her stroller carefully dodging the occasional errant forehand
from Papa.
Emily also has developed her very own signature gang symbol. She
wakes up to it, she does it while lying on her changing table, she
shows it off pretty much wherever she is or goes. She sticks her
thumb in between her forefinger and middle finger in a tight fist
and sticks her arm straight up (right unfortunately, it would have
been nice to have a southpaw for her tennis game). Then she'll keep
that position for several minutes. When I see this happen, I salute.

Also this month, it was HOT. Holy moly was it hot. Since Momma &
Papa are too cheap to shell out for a/c, Emily was cookin'. She
enjoyed her bath's even more and often hung out in a tee or just
plain went native.
Emily did try to be more lady-like this month by getting dressed
up every now and then . . .
but she just looked like a little boy with a dress on . . .
